  • How do I make an appointment?

You can call me at (828)419-0613 or email karen@karencollinscounseling.com to schedule.

  • What can I expect?
Our first session will include getting to know one another and evaluation of your counseling needs. As we consider what is going on, we will discuss what will be most helpful. We will determine what goals you want to achieve and whether we think I am the best fit for you. We will confer about treatment goals, enhancing relationships with others, and how to best improve your capacity to thrive in daily life.

Sessions are typically one hour. Depending on the client’s needs, we may meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

  • Do you take insurance?

At this time only private pay is accepted. When you choose to use your insurance company, you are allowing them the right to some of your confidential information, which includes providing a diagnosis at the beginning of treatment. If you choose to private pay, you are no longer obligated to the requirements of the insurance company. This allows for greater flexibility for your unique treatment and needs, also guarding your privacy.

  • What are your cancellation and rescheduling policies?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, I ask that you give greater than a 24-hour notice via phone or email. If it is less than 24 hours or a no show, then you will be charged the full fee of the service.

  • Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Confidentiality is the heart of mental health therapy and is protected by law. I generally only release information with written permission. There are some exceptions. Insurance companies typically require some basic information if you desire reimbursement. Mental health professionals are required by law to report:

    • Making provisions for your safety if there is a threat of imminent harm to yourself.

    • Taking protective actions (including notifying potential victims or police) if there is a threat of serious bodily harm to others.

    • Reporting potential child, elder, or dependent abuse.

    • Legal testimony if subpoenaed/ordered by court.

    • Assisting in accessing services if a client is unable to meet their basic needs (including food, clothing, and/or shelter) due to mental illness.

** Please note that these exceptions are rare, and it is my goal to always maintain strict confidentiality. **
